A registered nurse (RN) is a medical professional who takes care of patients as part of a doctor’s team. RNs may provide direct patient care, perform examinations, treatments and medication administration on behalf of an attending physician, but registered nurses are generally assigned to educate patients about their condition. A person must complete an associate or bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school and obtain licensure to become an RN. A registered nurse with proof of continuing education programs (workshops, courses and training taken as a nurse) posted on his/her RN resume has a greater chance of being hired. Most employers hire registered nurses who include hospital-based experience or medical specialty in their RN resume. |
