Follow-up letter critique:
Good morning, Tracy:
A follow-up letter is essential in today's time-intensive marketplace. Many executives and hiring managers are busy. They may have failed to respond to your initial cover letter.
A short follow-up letter mailed three weeks after submitting a resume will differentiate you from other candidates and suggest to a hiring manager that you are unusually interested in the position.
In an effort to maintain continuity between your resume, cover letter, and follow-up letter I used the same heading and formatting in each, then began the letter by reminding the employer of who you are, including your skills set and career goals.
I expressed your continued interest in the position, then wrote of your Masters in Business Administration, extensive technical skills, and your ability to work cross-functionally in a time-intensive environment. Capabilities that make you unique and help you to stand out from other applicants.
I then ended the letter by reiterating your interest in setting up an interview.
All decisions to modify data were in keeping with the guidelines and standards of the Professional Association of Resume Writers (PARW).
With this follow-up letter you have a powerful tool that will remind a hiring manager of your continued interest, determination, and unique skills set.
It was a pleasure serving you, Tracy.
Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
