  • Marketing resume critique:

    Dear Veronica ~

As requested, I used Design 4 "Executive - Two Pages," for your resume.

I began by using the tag "Marketing Executive" so that a hiring manager would instantly know where your career has been and where it is heading. Beneath that tag, I listed your skill set of "Product Management, Strategic Planning, and New Product Development." In the brief paragraph that follows, I described you as dynamic and award-winning (an understatement, to be sure, considering your amazing career at AT&T). I then went on to write of your "…outstanding success creating and launching new AT&T products for domestic and international markets." I next listed data regarding your Patent - an award you should be very proud of. I went on to write that you are skilled in "…reducing marketing costs, managing cross-functional teams, and administering multi-million dollar budgets." I said that you were willing to relocate (hiring managers love that), and then listed your additional capabilities, pulling noun phrases from the body of your old resume.

In the next section, I listed your professional awards (I excluded the one for your education, choosing instead to list it there - that provides better organization and continuity to the resume).

In the next section, I listed all of your jobs beneath the AT&T tag. I put the divisions in which you worked "Consumer Services," "Computer Systems," and "International," immediately after your job title so there would be no confusion as to where you worked. I compiled the information, in this manner, because of space considerations. To list AT&T twice more would have caused your resume to run to three pages. Even CEOs are advised to stick to a two-page resume, as hiring managers prefer this.

In the Professional Experience section, I began each bullet point with the strongest action verb possible while also revising text for clarity, conciseness, and maximum impact.

I ended your resume with the Education section.

All decisions to modify and organize data were in keeping with the guidelines and standards set forth by the Professional Association of Resume Writers (PARW).

With this resume, you now have a powerful tool that's well organized and filled with pertinent data, while also being aesthetically pleasing.

It was a pleasure serving you, Veronica.

Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
